Intended as much for storming race tracks as for road driving, this heavily dramatized version of the standard Civic hatchback is offered exclusively with a raucous 315-hp turbocharged inline-four and six-speed manual transmission. On our test track, the CTR threw down mighty levels of grip, sticking to the pavement like a double-yellow line. The current Civic Type R was new for 2023 with more power, a retuned six-speed manual and suspension, stiffer body, redesigned exterior, and updated cabin. For 2024, the CTR returns unchanged. Our enthusiasm for Honda's performance compact hatchback grows with the current generation. Although its improvements don't show up in objective test data, this Civic Type R is more focused and track ready than the previous one. Body control is uncanny, and in testing the CTR can out-brake more expensive sports cars. We still think it's the best handling front-wheel-drive money can buy.
