    Dealer Notes

The SUV market is more crowded than a highway on a long holiday weekend. So, how do you stand out in a sea of sameness? First, veer off the beaten path and leave the pack behind. Second, while the others concentrate on simply being utilitarian vehicles, hone in on being a sport utility vehicle. Dont focus on the number of cup holders, but focus on the number of horses under the hood. In other words, build a Dodge. Because compared to other SUVs, only Durango goes all in with Rear-Wheel Drive , Sport suspension, and an incredible amount of horsepower and torque capable of pulling an equally incredible towing rating. For good measure, Durango offers plenty of technology to keep you entertained and connected.
Edmunds wrote... If the Durango looks familiar, thats because you have seen this current generation on the road since the 2011 model year. That is an eternity compared to nearly every rival, but Dodge has kept this three-row crossover relevant. For 2019, there's even more to like. The Durango's fundamentals â€" including extraordinary towing capacity, available V8 power, and adult-size space in the third row â€" are key to its enduring appeal. If you can find a powertrain that suits your needs, whether a V6 or a V8, there is a lot to like. Even at this advanced stage in its life cycle, the Durango remains one of the most capable and well-rounded three-row crossovers you can buy
Kelly Blue Book added...With the capabilities of a full-size SUV like the Chevy Tahoe, but the smaller package of a Honda Pilot, the Dodge Durango occupies a unique spot in the modern SUV market. The Durango can tow with the big boys. Yet the size and interior both target smaller crossover SUVs like the Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse and Toyota Highlander. There is nothing else on the market that combines the kind of 3-row capability, family-friendly utility, and high performance at that price.

Purchased 2011 Citadel at end of model year and found a great deal. Prior to driving this automobile, Dodge/Jeep were at the bottom of my wish list. The vehicle is loaded with options. I could not find anything even close in other large SUVs for the price. Great for family with kids and for parents not ready for a minivan. Plenty of room even for adults in the 2nd and 3rd row seating. Entertainment system is very worthwhile for people with children. Much more comfortable ride than similar large SUVs. Safety features are wonderful. Only downside is it is a bit slow in accellerating from a stop (V6 engine). Not so much of an issue between 50-70 mph. Handles very well in winter weather as well.

I had a much more expensive vehicle before—an Infiniti M37X. The Citadel is more comfortable to drive and as a passenger. I have a long list of things I didn’t like about the Infiniti—including the fact that purchased new, and babied by a little old lady, had complete engine failure at 40,000 miles. They wouldn’t honor the guarantee, saying it was abused, yet this Citadel has been SO dependable, it’s a quiet ride (unlike Infiniti) and SO versatile. I can flatten down the seats and haul whatever, or put a mattress in back for a resting passenger on long road trips. Love, love love this car, and I’ve had new company cars (mostly Cadillacs) for years. I added a little chrome to dress it up. Good field of vision when driving too.

It's an excellent SUV . I got the fully loaded R/T, with a hefty MSRP (don't let the MSRP fool you, as many say, it's a suggestion not the actual sales price). For how old this platform is, it has aged well. There are pros and cons to owning an older architecture SUV in 2020; Pros: - It has a legit V8 engine. The sound and the performance makes you want to hit full throttle all the time. - No rattles, none whatsoever. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fantom noises. - If driven calmly, it gets about 25 mpg on highway. No one drives this monster calmly. - While the second row seats don't slide, all rows have adequate space by default. - Standard Alpine sound system is way better than many other "brand name" sound systems I have owned on my previous cars. - While it's an older architecture, it can still compete with the newer SUV's on technology too. It's an option, but adaptive cruise with stop and go, front crash prevention, lane keeping etc is available and works well. - Can tow, can tow a lot. -It's been around with this engine and transmission combo since 2014. Whatever defects there were, whatever that needed time to be figured out, is now figured out. I made a mistake of purchasing a first model year car before, man oh man, never again! Cons: - Thirsty. Yes me being a little heavy footed doesn't help either. - Technology shows its age; while it does have optional front crash prevention, it can not detect pedestrians. Most newer model competitors can. - You can't fold the second row seats if there's a child seat on. - Brakes are a little on the mushy side. Too much travel (coming from a German car) before pads actually bite the rotors. - It can be flat towed, tranny has a mode for that, but it doesn't have any connection to activate the brakes and brake lights. Overall, I am very happy. P.S. I did buy an 8 years 125k miles extended "max care" warranty. It's really affordable for the coverage it provides. Unlike many other brands, they let you buy it anytime before the factory warranty expires. You don't have to get it when you purchase the car!
